Dillard Smith provides a wide range of services to the electric power and telecommunication industries. We have served the electric utility industry since 1947 and many of our original customers continue to employ Dillard Smith's construction and maintenance crews.
Our services include construction and maintenance of overhead distribution and transmission lines, substations, underground distribution systems, fiber optic networks, outdoor lighting and traffic signals. We also offer a wide range of HV & EHV energized transmission, substation construction and maintenance services.

Emergency restoration crews respond to customers throughout the eastern half of the country in the aftermath of hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters. We take pride in our commitment to safety and continuously invest in providing our employees with the most modern tools and equipment in the industry.

Our corporate offices are located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and regional offices are maintained in Ashland, KY; Atlanta, GA; Clanton, AL; New Market, TN; and Palmetto, FL.

On Thursday, April 28th, 2011, a devastating EF-3 tornado struck the small town of Glade Spring, VA. The twister, approximately 3/4 mile wide, continued for 25 miles directly through the heart of the small community.


In early 2011, Dillard Smith Construction Company was contracted by American Electric Power (AEP) to begin construction on a 4.5 mile double circuit 138kV transmission line located near Roanoke, VA.
